Formatting Drives
Formatting initializes the hard disk drive or an SD card. Formatting (see “Glossary”
p.197) completely erases all the images and albums created on the hard disk drive or SD
card.
ATTENTION
You should connect the AC adapter when formatting the hard disk drive or an SD
card.
Formatting also erases protected images. It also erases all other data on the
media. Always check carefully before formatting the hard disk drive or an SD card.
See “Protecting Images” p.112.
A faulty SD card or hard disk drive cannot be formatted correctly.
Always format an SD card on the camera before using it for the first time. You
should also format SD cards periodically to remove any fragmented files and
maximize the available storage capacity.

From the setup menu, use the jog dial to select [SYSTEM]
and press the OK button.
The system menu appears.

Use the jog dial to select [FORMAT] and press the OK
button.

Use the jog dial to select [HDD] or [SD] and press the OK
button.
A formatting confirmation message appears.
HDD: Formats the hard disk drive.
SD : Formats an SD card.
