Figure 4-69. Paper Sensor.
Initialization Failure
One symptom of a defective paper sensor is when the carriage assembly
suddenly stops at left end of unit during initialization - initialization does
not complete (dim or blank control panel display). This could also be due
to a faulty power supply. The paper sensor should sense the platen on
the return trip but may fail to do so - no error code given. Replace paper
sensor PCB on carriage in this situation, unless the power supply is
proven defective first.
NOTE: it is extremely important that the room or area lighting remains
consistent during all print operations or the paper sensor may fail (often
no error message is provided - the printer simply stops the print job; i.e.,
do not turn lights off in the room after a printer has successfully mea-
sured the media, and then start a print job).
Ensure the Main PWA LEDs (light emitting diodes) are properly function-
ing:
D1 – Normally flashes; DSP is not active. Steady when printing.
D9 – Normally flashes; Power PC processor is idle. Stops flashing when
processor is active (i.e. during paper sensing operations).
D10 – Normally OFF; Flashes during initialization, then turns off. LED
staying on would indicate a problem when the FPGA is unconfigured.
Ensures programming of gate array chips is successful.
D8 - +24V available.
D13 - +5V available.
